Other Information: Gordonstoun is a unique School with a predominantly Scottish flavour but following the English education system and benefiting from many cultural influences. At any time we have representatives from 40 nationalities, around a third of the school population. As we are one of the only remaining independent schools in the UK with a full boarding ethos, Gordonstoun remains open throughout the spring and summer terms and mainstream activities run through the weekends. As a result, international students integrate extremely well at Gordonstoun and all religious and cultural events are fully respected. The Junior School at Gordonstoun moved on to the Gordonstoun campus, from its original base near Aberlour in Speyside in September 2004, with its first intake of sixty 8 to 13 year old boys and girls. Since then the pupil roll has grown to 120 with over half of these boarders. The Senior School represents Years 9 to 13, ages 13-18. There are 450 students in this part of the School and they come from many different backgrounds, cultures and nationalities. The Gordonstoun “family” represents one third of students from Scotland, one third from the rest of the UK and one third from 35 different countries. This makes for an extremely interesting and diverse community. At Gordonstoun we aim to educate and develop the whole person through a wide range of learning mediums that are both stimulating and challenging. We believe students should be equipped to cope with life in the twenty-first century and have the skills to adapt to an ever changing world. Education should develop the mind, body, and person and advance understanding. By acquiring knowledge and skills, girls and boys should come to appreciate the joy of learning and thrill of success. It is with these thoughts in mind that we have developed an exciting and well balanced curriculum. Students are exposed to, and encouraged to, pursue a diverse programme. In addition to following GCSE and Advanced Level academic studies, our students will also experience Outdoor Education, Service to the Community, Sport, International and Spiritual Citizenship and Cultural commitments as part of their rich diet of study. We assess each student before and on arrival at School. Each will receive the appropriate level of help and support from our English as an Additional Language (EAL) specialists. For example, some students will require a little help and support while others may need full in-class assistance.
