  • 班級規模依學生的需要而定,一般為 3/4/5 位學生與一位講師的比例

About St. Jude’s

We help bright students who struggle with learning – Often overlooked by mainstream school systems, bright students who experience learning difficulties can finally find the support and instruction they need at St. Jude’s.

We provide excellence – For over four decades, St. Jude’s has been the most recognized and successful special education alternative in Waterloo Region. We strive for excellence from our administrative, teaching and executive staff.

We are a temporary special education institution – St. Jude’s provides customized academic instruction with the ultimate goal of returning students to the mainstream school system equipped with the tools they need to succeed.

At St. Jude’s, our mission is to help our students experience the JOY of LEARNING! We believe students require consistency, understanding, fairness, and a sense of personal responsibility, as well as excellent teaching.

Quick Facts

St. Jude’s is unlike any other school in Waterloo Region! At a glance, this is what sets us apart:

  • Waterloo Region’s only private, special education day school 
  • Non-denominational and co-educational
  • Teacher-directed special education customized and structured for each student
  • Helping students for more than 40 years
  • Classes are staffed with a teacher and an educational assistant
  • Classes size is based on the needs of the students and are generally in the ratio of 3/4/5 students to one instructor
  • Although, St. Jude’s recognizes that many children experiencing learning difficulties (i.e. LD, ADD, ASD) experience low self esteem, anxieties and frustrations, St. Jude’s does not accept that physically aggressive, intimidating and or threatening behaviour is intrinsic to these learning difficulties. In most instances these are learned behaviours and will not be tolerated and will result in withdrawal of registration and/or expulsion.
  • St. Jude’s will not accept a child with or needing a “Safety Plan” as defined by the publicly funded educational systems

 

Day School

St. Jude’s School is designed for students:

  • who are between grades 1-10

  • who are of average or above average intellectual ability.

    Most St. Jude’s students score in the bright to gifted range of intellectual abilities

  • who experience one or more learning challenges such as:
    Central Auditory Processing
    Dyscalculia
    Dysgraphia
    Dyslexia
    Language Processing
    Non-Verbal Learning
    Visual Perceptual/Visual Motor
    ADHD
    Executive/Cognitive Functioning
    Memory Issues: Verbal/Auditory. Working, Immediate, Short-term, Long-term, or Automatic
    High Functioning Autism/Aspergers

  • who find learning/school a struggle

  • who are starting to question their intellectual abilities

  • who are falling behind their peers in reading, comprehension, writing and mathematical skills

  • who require a school environment where the focus is not only on academics

  • who require a school environment where the focus is also on life management:
    i.e. a work ethic, organizational & study habits, time management, confidence, self confidence, self reliance, self advocacy, character development & growth and much more

  • who do not exhibit behaviour as their primary school issue
