Academic life

Our ethos focuses on life-long curiosity as we take learning beyond the classroom.

We teach our pupils to learn, not just remember. Academic progress is underpinned by a robust support network and classwork and homework are complemented by a programme of lectures and educational visits designed to inform and inspire.

Our academic programme is broad and unapologetically challenging; we offer GCSEs, International GCSEs, A levels and the International Baccalaureate. We monitor each pupil’s academic achievement through independent baseline testing.

Our pupils are supported at every step. Our Tutor system provides well-considered academic support for each pupil throughout their school career. Tutor groups are co-educational and from a mixture of Houses to ensure balance and integration. In the Sixth Form, pupils are able to choose their own Tutor, giving them autonomy to make the decisions that matter to them, further strengthening their life at Malvern.

Learning Enhancement

• We take a whole school approach to Learning Enhancement. Any pupil can access support so they can overcome any challenges they may be experiencing.
• Malvern College teachers help all pupils identify their strengths and areas for development. We also provide support for all pupils in personal organisation skills, essay writing, prioritising of workload or management of anxiety and stress.
• We offer tailored private support tuition with a range of specialist teachers who have expertise in multi-sensory approaches to learning. We can arrange one-to-one tutorials or may suggest participation in a small group course.

English as an Additional Language

In keeping with the College’s commitment to provide a first-class English education for pupils from a variety of cultural backgrounds, the department also delivers EAL (English as an Additional Language) support.
