Heartland was founded in 1999 in Winnipeg to help international students achieve their English learning goals. A lot has changed in the world in the past 25 years. Most of our applications arrived by fax back in 1999! Heartland has adapted to the changes and challenges over that period and has grown from a single class to a leader in language education in Canada.
Over the years, our school facilities have adapted and improved. Our curriculum has evolved with students needs and improved with advances in learning and technology. In 2015, we even expanded with a new campus in Mississauga, Ontario. Throughout all of the changes, what hasn’t changed is our belief that the key to the best language learning is caring and professional teachers and support staff in the right environment. We are looking forward to the years ahead as we continue our effort to be the best place to learn English.
Learn English in the heart of Canada!
We would like to acknowledge that we are in Treaty 1 territory and that the land on which we gather is the traditional territory of Anishinaabeg, Cree, Oji-Cree, Dakota, and Dene Peoples, and the homeland of the Métis Nation.
Our original school is located in exciting downtown Winnipeg, Manitoba, within the historic Exchange District where everything you need is close to the school including public transportation, shopping, restaurants, museums, the Winnipeg Public Library, and parks. Classrooms are large and comfortable. Students have free access to wireless Internet, kitchen facilities, free coffee in the morning, lounge and activity spaces and more.
Winnipeg has fewer international students than larger cities in Canada, and Heartland has one of the most diverse nationality mixes of all language schools. Therefore, you can be assured that you will not be studying with too many students from your own country and that you will be immersed in an English environment so that you will improve your English quickly.
In Mississauga, Heartland’s second location, the school is minutes away from the exciting Square One area which has the best shopping, entertainment and restaurants in the city. There is a Metro stop across the street from the school making it very easy to get there from downtown Toronto. Classrooms are large and comfortable. Students have free access to wireless Internet, kitchen facilities, free coffee in the morning, lounge and activity spaces and more.
We would like to acknowledge that the land on which we gather is the traditional territory of the Haudensaunee and Anishnaabeg. This territory is covered by the Upper Canada Treaties, is within the lands protected by the “Dish With One Spoon” wampum agreement.
