COR UNUM –

About

COR UNUM – ONE HEART, ONE MIND IN THE HEART OF JESUS CHRIST

Baradene College of the Sacred Heart is a Catholic Girls School, situated in Remuera, Auckland, New Zealand, teaching girls from Year 7 until Year 13. There are currently 1350 girls on the roll, including approximately 50 international students and a teaching staff of over 75.

Baradene is a school rich in history and tradition. The school was set up in 1909 by the Religious Society of the Sacred Heart. The Society of the Sacred Heart was founded by Mother Madeleine Sophie Barat. The essence of a Sacred Heart education is a deep concern for each person’s total development – spiritual, intellectual, emotional, social, cultural and physical.

Student Life

Baradene College offers opportunities and guidance for all students which support their educational, social and personal development. Our framework of guidance, discipline and communication seeks to create a learning environment in which the educational welfare of all students is paramount.

Each year level has a coordinating Dean who liaises with the year level’s home room teachers. Deans welcome close communication with parents and students to ensure that students are appropriately supported with issues they may face.

The College is a KiVa school. KiVa is an evidence-based programme to prevent bullying and to help build resilience in our students. The effects of the KiVa anti-bullying programme have been positively evaluated in numerous international studies and we are delighted to be offering this programme to our Year 7, 8, 9 and 10 students.

Our leadership training programmes and extensive range of extra-curricular groups enhance student life and ensure a well-balanced curriculum which emphasizes and honours student voice.

We also have a well resourced Careers Department to assist our students in their career pathway.

Curriculum

Baradene College is an academic College where achievement at the highest level is valued, and the diversity of student ability is acknowledged.

CURRICULUM GOALS

Baradene College is committed to:

  • Meeting National Curriculum goals and objectives and giving due recognition to New Zealand’s dual cultural heritage.
  • Offering its students a broad general education which will enable them to specialise later in the fields of their choice.
  • Providing holistic courses of study that educate the students academically, spiritually, physically and emotionally.
  • Embedding in all its courses of instruction the philosophies of a Sacred Heart education.
  • Ensuring that courses of study at each level will allow every student to develop her talents as far as she is able.
  • Putting in place programmes that will assist individual students to overcome their difficulties.

Baradene College runs a Personalised Learning Programme which specialises in assisting our girls with their different learning needs, whether that is Enrichment Learning (gifted and talented) or specific learning difficulties, for example, dyslexia.

All students in Years 7 to13 have at least two and a half hours of Religious Education in classes per week.

In Year 11, students have an opportunity to participate in the Social Awareness Programme for one term. This comprises community visits and an interesting array of speakers from areas of need such as the prisons.

Students in Years 12 and 13 are offered NCEA Achievement Standards.
