A young person boarding at Ashville shares a home with fellow students and residential staff. Each of the four Houses provide an extended family offering friendship, advice and guidance whenever it is needed. Students like the structure of the days and weeks. They enjoy living close to their friends. They appreciate the facilities and the fact that there is always plenty to do. Most of all, they love being part of a community which cares for them and puts their interests first. Ashville has a truly international feel, with students from a wide range of countries making up the boarding community. Current and recent students hail from the UK, China, Hong Kong, Germany, Thailand, Nigeria, Singapore, Italy, South Africa, Spain and Vietnam. We are acutely aware of the heartache that parents feel when their child moves to boarding school and is placed in our care. Therefore we wish to have a clear line of communication with parents and the student¡¦s guardians. Every child is a precious commodity and we feel confident that the level of care and support is excellent and that each student leaves Ashville well prepared to meet the demands of the global environment. Ashville is home to approximately seventy students of varying ages, from sixteen different countries. They have recognised that an education at a UK boarding school and in particular Ashville, will prepare them to meet the demands and opportunities of the global economy. The boarding team recognise the uncertainty and nervousness that both the students and their parents may feel prior to commencing at the school. Consequently extensive support, guidance and communication is given throughout their stay. The school provides transport to and from the regional airports at the beginning and end of each term to ensure the safe movement of students. When students begin their study, they participate in an induction programme which aims to make them feel comfortable, build up early friendships and provide guidance on subject choices and learning styles in the classroom. For many, English is an additional language and all students are provided with extra support within the curriculum and each academic department works closely with the EAL teachers, to ensure maximum progress of each individual student. A level students benefit from extensive university and career advice and many of our overseas students access the very top universities. Outside the classroom, all students are able to benefit from a wide and stimulating extra-curricular programme, which helps develop a range of social and personal skills. The school is very aware of the cultural and dietary needs of all international students and these are more than exceeded. All students have the opportunity to contribute to developments in these areas. Overseas Students Applicants whose native language is not English should be reasonably fluent in written and spoken English. They will need to provide evidence of their ability and maybe asked to take entrance tests in English and Mathematics. It can be arranged for the tests to be taken in their own country. If students are taking GCSE or IGCSE examinations then we are able to offer places on the basis of a reference from their present school and their predicted grades, which should be at least five passes at grade C or above with seven passes at Grade B or above in the subjects they wish to study at A Level. Where possible, we require each overseas applicant to be interviewed and we can usually arrange for both the tests and interview to take place in the student's home country. We work with a network of educational agents worldwide who can provide this service or we can arrange for the student to sit the tests in their own school or nearest British Council office.
